A CT Scan is used to look at the internal structures of the body. Both soft tissues (eg brain, liver, kidneys, lungs) and bone can be seen. 2D Digital Mammography is the most common breast imaging method used in Australia, however research shows it has some limitations. It can miss some cancers and produce false positives as structures can overlap and normal tissue may appear as abnormal, leading to further testing and unnecessary patient anxiety. Breast Tomosynthesis or 3D Mammography uses newer technology to help reduce detection challenges with conventional 2D Mammography. MRI comes to Ballina

North Coast Radiology Group is continuing to expand its services with the introduction of MRI services from our Ballina branch. Installed in late 2014, the 1.5T MRI machine will enable us to support patients with their non-medicare eligible examinations. Generally, these are examinations which are requested by GP's or Allied Health for which no medicare rebate is available.
