Frequently Asked Questions

A referral from your GP or specialist is required for most services, including x-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI, and mammography. DEXA body composition is the only service that does not require a referral. If you have any questions, our team is happy to help when you call to book.

We offer extended MRI hours at North Coast Radiology Ballina to give you greater flexibility when booking. Please contact our clinic directly to check current availability and to receive any preparation instructions before your appointment.

Mammography uses low-dose x-ray to create detailed images of breast tissue and is commonly used for routine breast cancer screening. Breast ultrasound uses sound waves to examine specific areas of concern identified on a mammogram or during a physical examination. Your GP or specialist will advise which is most appropriate for your situation, and in some cases both may be recommended together.

After your appointment, your report and images will be sent electronically to your referring practitioner. You can also view them through the NCR Patient Results app or web portal, typically available 7 to 14 days after your scan.
