Frequently Asked Questions
A referral from your GP or specialist is required for most services, including x-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI and mammography. The only exception is our DEXA body composition scan, which does not require a referral. If you have any questions, our team is happy to help when you call to book.
We offer early MRI appointments from 7:00am, Monday to Friday, making it easier to schedule your scan before work or other commitments. Please contact our clinic to check availability and to receive preparation instructions ahead of your appointment.
Mammography uses low-dose x-ray technology to create detailed images of breast tissue. The procedure is generally quick, taking around 20 minutes. You will be asked to undress from the waist up and each breast will be gently compressed between two plates to obtain a clear image. Our team understands this can feel uncomfortable and will work to ensure you feel as at ease as possible throughout.
Bulk billing is available for some Medicare-eligible services at Clarence Valley Imaging Grafton. Fees may apply for other services. Our team will confirm any out-of-pocket costs with you at the time of booking.

DEXA Body Composition
We provide DEXA body composition scans that measure fat mass, lean muscle, and bone mineral density. These scans are vital for health assessments, weight management, and tracking the performance of elite and amateur athletes. DEXA is the only imaging service that does not require a referral.
